CLEARY SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF IS SEEKING TO FILL THE FOLLOWING POSITION:
TEACHER OF THE DEAF
REQUIREMENTS:
- NY State Certified Teacher of the Deaf
- Knowledge of American Sign Language
- Knowledgeable in strategies used in a Listening and Spoken Language Program
- Experience working with students who are deaf and/or deaf with disabilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates a safe and positive educational environment conducive to learning utilizing best practices including behavior management strategies appropriate for Elementary students
- Designs and carries out lesson plans in order to achieve the goals stated in each students’ Individualized Education Plan and incorporating NYS Common Core Standards
- The class is housed in an East Islip Elementary School, with mainstreaming opportunities
- Employs instructional methods and materials most appropriate to the age and cognitive level of the students enhanced with data-driven instruction; knowledge of ABA strategies a plus
- Provides direction to classroom teacher assistant
- Works and communicates effectively with families
- Records, reports, and interprets the behavior and progress of students, making necessary program modifications
- Carries out all educational and therapeutic programs including lifting, moving and positioning of students
- Participates in various teacher-related meetings and in-service sessions
- Communicates effectively with related staff personnel to ensure collaboration amongst all
- Designs and implements Individualized Education Plans
- Writes reports and participates in CSE meetings
- Performs any other tasks deemed necessary by administration
- Position available for 2018-2019 Academic School year
